Scramble - Youth Basketball Colorado

by Chad
(Canon City, CO)

Set your groups to play 3 on 3, 4 on 4 or 5 on 5.

This is a full court drill.

Have your offensive group spread out on the baseline.

The defensive group matched-up facing their offensive player at the freethrow line or farther out, depending on the age and the speed of your kids.

The coach will pass the ball to one of the offensive players who will in turn innitiate the fastbreak.

The defensive player who is guarding the player that receives the ball must sprint to the baseline and touch it with his/her hand before getting back on defense.

This forces the defensive players to react and scramble until the other player can recover and help out on defense. It also helps the offense recognize they have an advantage and to attack quickly.

Make sure and spread the ball around. Don't just pass it to your guards. This forces your bigs to start making decisions with the ball when all others may be guarded.
